Daft Punk slick finally!

This is seriously the first image of daft punk that is actually making use of their cool costumes that is not blurry or obscured. They actually look really epic here. Very Dark, just the way I like it! There is something right about the idea of robots making repetitive dance music.

Aura Television

Almost forgot about Philips ambilight televisions. It's aura TV, looks pretty swish!

Finally the Auras

Behold the auras trend! I refer to this trend as the auras trend because generally there tends to be a glow or aura of light present in the frame. Sometimes this is a point of light and other times it is more general.

AND MORE SHARDS

Well looks like melbourne's trains are to be decked out in shards as well.....looks good. The logo is nice, clear links to transportation. It all looks fresh. But like any shard design you have to wonder, for how much longer...

Shards still going Strong

Was watching video hits (which I don't do often for the record! :-P) and I saw this new video for the song Bullet Proof by La Roux. Shards trend represented nicely here. It is actually quite a nice video really. Lots of tricky multimedia, softshaded CG and.....Auras, auras is another trend I'll talk about soon....it is a b it harder to prove. SO I am still collecting evidence of this one.

Myki things everywhere, they're ugly

These have been popping up everywhere now. Instead of going for
something far more slick (like a flat steel look or something :-p).
They just don't look cool or evil enough, new things should look evil,
like the new convention centre, slick but evil. Not angry enough lol.
Too bubbly, too kiddy, too 90's.

Interestingly I noticed this one seems to be active unlike the rest.

Trendspotting : Shards Trend

I have been seeing a lot of this trend in the last year or so. SHARDS, hard edges with sharp points. It is everywhere, even the new city of Melbourne logo. I do like the trend....but it is bordering on overuse I would say at this point. Check out the shards in the background, definitely very 2000 & late....ugh did I say that?

The convention Centre is the Shards trend applied to a building both inside and outside. Quite sharp I might add, I like it.

Timerland, JT and Madonna got in on it too! as they try to outrun the x-ray shards?

New dexter promo shots are SLICK

So the season 4 promo shots for DEXTER the TV series about the sociopathic serial killer with a heart of gold have come out. The concept is clever, but it is the clarity of the images that has really impressed me.

It is decked out with the same light colour background that previous shots have had except this time is Dexter’s new baby. CHECK OUT THE EYES, they did a nice job there. It a piercing blue, also note the shadows at the edges of the eyes....some handiwork going on there. The soaked fingers too, all very sharp. They must have lit this very carefully. The effect is a slightly menacing baby! Which is what I think they were going for....Obviously the contrast or...Juxtaposition *rolls eyes*... of a baby or new life and Dexter the bringer of death etc, pretty straight forward. It works

Some Experimentation

I did some experimentation with some basic distortion effects in illustrator. More to come of course!

They regrassed the grass wall

Plant walls are all the rage right now. I've seen a few around
melbourne. One at Melbourne central, one in docklands and this little
one at flinders st....the grass died though. But I guess they can just
keep replacing it :-p

2 red ring kiosks

I own an xbox 360, it red ringed. And these did too, one in myer in
the city and the other at Harvey norman somewhere. I thought it quite
funny that this is happening to even the display units...

They put advertising everywhere

This is quite clever actually, because you sort of have to look at
them. You are just standing there. If only the ads weren't for
telstra! Yuck

Welcome to pour the slick

This Blog will highlight exellent examples of slickness. Something that I do strive for. And various trends I spot here and there as well. Pouring the slick refers to when a designer pulls out all the stops and really polishes the work. it gives it that almost unatural perfection, which is fun to look at. You will see what I mean as I begin to post. With any luck I may keep it up!
